A 32-year-old Kaneville, East Bank Demerara resident, was, on Friday, sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a robbery with violence charge.
Sherman Ken appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
He admitted that, on June 21, 2022, at Brickdam Access Road, Georgetown, he robbed Farida Ali of a gold chain and pendant worth $28,000. Also, during, or immediately after, the robbery he used personal violence on the said victim.
According to the information presented by police prosecutor, Christopher Morris, on the day in question, the victim was walking along Brickdam, when Ken approached and pushed her.
Ken then snatched the woman’s chain and dealt her several cuffs about her body, before escaping on foot. The victim raised an alarm and Ken was apprehended by a City Police Officer
He was searched and the stolen jewellery was recovered in his possession.
