LEGUAN Secondary School were crowned champions of the West Demerara Essequibo-Islands Circle Tennis Sub-Association and Al Sport and Tour Promotions 56th Independence Anniversary Mixed team tournament, which concluded recently at the Uitvlugt Community Centre ground.
Parika Salem Secondary batted first in the championship clash and scored 59-5 off their 25 deliveries, with Emmanuel Armstrong hitting 24, Devika Hiralal 10 and Harish Bodhram 10.
Leguan’s turn in the middle saw them hit off the required runs in 17 deliveries to reach 61-2.
Player of the Tournament Jameel Sahoye led the attack with 23, while Remesh Seeram added 22.

West Demerara Secondary finished third, Essequibo Islands Secondary fourth, Zeeburg Secondary fifth, Uitvlugt Secondary sixth and Vergenoegen Secondary seventh.
AWARD CEREMONY
Several awards were presented to the outstanding players and teams.
Sahoye was rewarded with his Player of the Tournament award, while Kareen Nalim from Parika Salem finished with the Best Bowler (female) award.

The Most Disciplined Team award went to the winners, as well as the Highest Team Score award, while the Most Uniformed team was Parika Salem.
A special prize was also given to Teacher Devika Hiralal from Parika Salem.
The event was sponsored by Ansa Mc Al Trading Guyana, GTT, Team Mohamed, Department of Youth in the MCYS, the Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
