T&T make light work of Leewards

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago made light work of Leeward Islands, thrashing them by eight wickets to make a winning start to their CG Women’s Super50 campaign here Friday.
Chasing 133 for victory at the Guyana National Stadium, T&T cruised to their target off 35 overs with opener Reniece Boyce top-scoring with 35 and Shenelle Lord stroking an unbeaten 30.
Leewards had earlier gathered 132 for eight off their 50 overs with Shawnisha Hector scoring 46 from 60 deliveries with seven fours, while number nine Rozel Liburd chipped in with a busy unbeaten 31 from 39 balls and number eight Amanda Edwards, 29 off 41 balls.
Fast bowler Kirbyina Alexander was the spearhead of the T&T attack with three for 20.

The revival came through Hector who put on 52 for the fourth over with Arsheena Freeman whose three runs required 64 deliveries.
However, Hector’s downfall in the 29th over via the run out route to to another slide where three wickets tumbled for 22 runs to leave Leewards on 87 for seven in the 39th over.
Liburd and Edwards then came to their side’s rescue, partnering in a 45-run, eighth wicket stand to put Leewards past the 100-run mark.
In reply, Boyce struck four fours off 56 deliveries, in a 71-run opening stand with Djenaba Joseph who made 15.
When both perished in the space of ten balls with six runs added, captain Anisa Mohammed (20 not out) and Lord, who struck five fours off 53 balls, put on 57 in an unbroken third wicket stand to see T&T over the line.
