JAMAICA turned an improbable situation into reality when they pulled off a massive victory over the Leeward Islands to come from behind and win the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s T20 Blaze tournament at the National Stadium, Providence, on Tuesday afternoon.Barbados, the former champions, had no losses prior to their clash with Trinidad and Tobago and held a superior net run rate but Jamaica had an outside chance if the Barbadians lost, and they hammered the Leeward Islands, and so they did, to get a superior net run rate than Barbados.

But up to press time last evening, Cricket West Indies (CWI) had not confirm the winners of the tournament

Jamaica batted first and piled up 170-5 led by Natasha McLean with a 53-ball 83 (9x4s; 3x6s) and 51-ball 56 (5x4s) from Stafanie Taylor as the two added 145 runs in 16 overs.

Amanda Edwards (2-11) and Saneldo Willett (2-31) made the inroads for the Leeward side, whose batters folded under the pressure of the big chase, as they reached 46-3 when their 20 overs expired.

Shawnisha Hector top-scored with 17 from 31 balls while Willett made 16 from 40 balls, as Jamaica cantered to a 124-run victory.

Summarised scores of Barbados v Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago108-7 from 20 overs (Rachel Vincent 22*, Britney Cooper 22, Anisa Mohammed 20; Hayley Matthews 2-25, Shakera Selman 2-30) beat Barbados 89-7 from 20 overs (Aaliyah Alleyne 26, Kyshona Knight 23; Mohammed 3-11, Kamara Ragoobar 2-16) by 19 runs

Meanwhile, Guyana women recorded their first win of the tournament on Momday night when they crushed winless Leewards by 75 runs, after gathering 122 for four from their 20 overs, thanks to the West Indies pair of Shemaine Campbelle (36) and Shakibi Gajbabi (32 not out).

Left-arm spinner Kaysia Schultz then grabbed three for 14 to help rout Leewards for 47 in the 15th overs.
