….Women’s T20 Blaze continurs today
A WASHOUT encounter against Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday gave Guyana their only two points in the ongoing Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s T20 Blaze and now they come up against the unbeaten table-leaders Jamaica today, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Both teams lost their opening game on Tuesday- Guyana fell short by seven runs against defending champions Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago suffered a 79-run defeat to Jamaica.
Guyana face Jamaica in round three from 14:30hrs, Barbados and Windward Islands play from 10:00hrs and the day’s final match is between the Leeward Islands and Trinidad & Tobago from 19:00hrs.
Though Guyana and Trinidad did not get to play, the other two matches on Thursday went ahead, and Barbados inflicted a commanding nine-wicket defeat on the Leeward Islands.
Hayley Matthews led the charge for Barbados by picking up 3-9 off four overs which was the main act to undermine the Leeward Islands for 60 all out in 18.2 overs. Shanika Bruce did the early damage with 3-15 off four overs.
Extras top-scored with 18, while Rosalie Dolabaille made 14 not out off 44 balls and Tiffany Thorpe scored 10.
In reply, Barbados romped to victory at 61-1 in just 6.4 overs with Matthews unbeaten on 23 off 18 balls (3×4).
Likewise, Jamaican bowlers stoutly defended 91 to emerge with a 25-run victory.
Jannillea Glasgow was brilliant with the new ball, grabbing 4-21 off 3.3 overs as Jamaica were bowled out within the allotted 20 overs.
Rashada Williams (25) and Stafanie Taylor (18) shared in a 26-run partnership then Williams and Chadean Nation (10) shared in a 28-run stand.
The Windwards had a steady fall of wickets and never got partnerships going. They were eventually dismissed for 66 in 16.4 overs.
Skipper Afy Fletcher top-scored with 20 off 24 balls; Jodi-Ann Morgan had the best bowling figures of 3-15, while Vanessa Watts had 2-5.
