THE Gastro Group, based in the Czech Republic, is actively seeking to expand its business in the Caribbean and has an eye on Guyana.

Already well placed in Cuba, the Vice-President of the Company, Ladislav Starka, met with Guyana’s Ambassador to Cuba, Halim Majeed, on Monday to explain his company’s interest in importing several manufactured products from Guyana.

This follows a meeting last Saturday between Ambassador Majeed and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Cuba, Petr Kavan, who has been seeking to increase commercial relations between the two countries.

Mr. Starka, who is planning to visit Guyana shortly, inquired about purchasing Demerara Distillers Limited El Dorado Rum in bulk, rice, lumber, and gold jewellery.

He is one of the two owners of Simplex CZ, specialising in trade with Latin America, primarily with Cuba, where it has been active since 2000.

Another Czech company, Moser Glassworks, a producer of high-quality crystal products, is now looking to export to Guyana.
