DEPUTY Commissioner of Administration (ag), Calvin Brutus, along with other senior police officials on Thursday visited the parents of 12-year-old Kayla Barnabus, who was killed on Wednesday in an accident involving a police vehicle.
The police seniors pledged that a thorough and impartial investigation will be conducted into the fatal accident, and also committed to covering the funeral and wake expenses for the child.
Barnabus was struck down by a police pickup while attempting to cross the Goed Fortuin Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD). She was a student of the West Demerara Secondary School.

According to a police release, Brutus met with Kayla’s parents, Delmon and Somatee Barnabus, at the couple’s School Street, Goed Fortuin residence.
Brutus expressed sympathy personally and on behalf of the Guyana Police Force, for the terribly tragic way in which the couple’s daughter lost her life.
“Brutus also assured the family of the Guyana Police Force’s commitment to helping them through this extremely difficult time and assured [them] that the GPF will assist in every way possible to take care of the expenses of the wake and funeral arrangements for Kayla” the release said.
