BERBICE Women certainly created history as they defeated Essequibo by 481 runs at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.

Berbice, who won the T20 tournament, batted first and piled on a massive 519-3 with three batters scoring centuries.

The Ancient County was led by Katana Mentore with 159 (21×4) from 129 balls, Shabika Gajnabi 129 (18×4) from 91 balls, Shanetta Grimmond 101* (11×4) from 66 balls, and Sherica Campbelle with a 30-ball 43* (5×4).

Analeisa D’Aguiar took 2-114 from 9.4 overs and Kumarie Persaud 1-81 as extra accounted for 86.

Essequibo in response were bowled for 38 from 17.3 overs as Gajnabi took 3-2 from three overs while Campbelle (2-9), Erva Giddings (2-15), Grimmond (1-1), and Ashmini Munisar (1-2) also got into the act.

Varuni Pitamber and Rhonda Jones each got eight. No batter reached double figures.

The action continues today at Providence with Demerara facing a Select XI from 09:00hrs

Guyana is preparing to host the Regional women’s tournament in early June.
