Saywack Lall, a prominent community and religious leader of Cullen, Region Two, has died at age 90. He passed away on April 8, 2022.
Lall, who also taught Hindi, was a very active promoter of the Hindu culture in Region Two and had dedicated his time to the establishment of Hindu societies in schools.
He was the founder of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha in Region Two and was also an active member of the Guyana Rice Producers Association (RPA).
His presence brought communities together at various temples. At the Cullen Temple, he taught Ramayan reading and “bani” singing. He also taught youths to play various instruments at the temple.
Lall grew up at the Golden Fleece Estate and led a life of service to his community. He worked with many on the streets bringing hope to them. He was also the founder of the Cullen Mandir and worked with many non-profit organisations that advocate for non-violence.
During his time as a community leader, he created programmes aimed at creating opportunities for youths as well as mentoring community members about humanity.
President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha and Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud, who spoke at the funeral, said Lall dedicated his life to effect changes in society.
She also called on his family to build on what he had started and to continue his work as a community leader.
Lall, she said was a great leader who represented his community, rice farmers and was a true member of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. She said that Sabha appreciates his works, especially in the establishment of temples on the Essequibo Coast.
Also in attendance at his funeral were Vice-President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Pandit Jagmohan; Director-General of the Ministry of Health, Dr Vishwa Mahadeo; Neil Kumar of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Regional Vice-Chairman, Humace Oodit, among others.
