THE softball fraternity and a wide cross-section of Guyanese yesterday bade a fitting farewell to the late Lakhram ‘Mike’ Singh following a moving ceremony at his residence, New Haven, Bel Air, Greater Georgetown.

Among those paying tributes to Singh, who dedicated part of his life to the promotion of the grassroots game while also managing a successful business, Mike’s Pharmacy, were members of the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) and the Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL) Inc.

Skipper Wayne Jones and Peter Persaud of Mike’s Wellman which was formed and owned by the late ‘leggie’, who also owned Wellwoman, and was fondly referred to as Shane Warne, also paid glowing tributes.

Singh, who also once served as the treasurer of the GFSCA and was also an executive of the now defunct Guyana Softball Cricket Association (GSCA), died on Thursday, March 31 after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack while representing Wellman in the Over-50 category of the 16th edition of the South Florida Softball Cricket League (SFSCL) tournament in the Sunshine State. He was rushed to hospital where he succumbed.

Following yesterday’s funeral ceremony, Singh’s remains were cremated at the Good Hope Foreshore, East Coast Demerara.
Singh is survived by his wife Nirmala, children Amrita and Vishnu among several other relatives and numerous friends and associates.

The Guyana Chronicle Sports Desk takes this opportunity to extend sincere condolences to his grieving family and friends.
