THE International Cricket Council (ICC), in partnership with Cricket West Indies (CWI), has launched a Foundation Certificate that is designed to empower ICC members to grow the game in their respective countries and provide a quality playing experience for all participants.
The free, online accreditation has been developed specifically for coaches who are coaching at the entry level stages of the player pathway as well as for those who would like to utilize the training resource as a platform to attain further accreditation.
The certificate represents the launch of the global ICC Training and Education Programme and is a significant milestone for the development of cricket around the world. The course is self-paced, delivered entirely online and allows participants to explore a range of modules focusing on the basics of the game, Safety & Inclusion, the Participants, the role of the Coach, as well as how to create effective training and enjoyable game-day environments.
CWI’s Coach Development Manager, Chris Brabazon, shared his thoughts on the process:
“The ICC have been fantastic to work with as we developed the structure and content of the accreditation, and then to utilise their resources to place the certificate online has been a huge boost for not only us, but for many other member nations. This course represents a significant step towards our strategic goal of making coach-development opportunities more accessible for our committed coaches and volunteers across the region. The timing of this course going live will enable us to bolster and prepare our network of coaches for the relaunch of ourgrass roots cricket programmes across the region.
This certificate is also the springboard for coaches to then go on and participate in one of our face to face CWI Level 1 Competition Coach Courses.” (CWI)
