27-YEAR-OLD construction worker, Shawn Bobb, who allegedly fatally stabbed his 19-year-old stepson Isaiah Edwards as he tried to intervene in a dispute between Bobb and his mother, was, on Thursday, remanded to prison.
The matter was heard before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Bobb, who resides at Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that he committed the capital offence against his stepson between January 26 and 27, 2022 at La Penitence Squatting Area, Georgetown.
According to a police statement issued recently on the matter, Edwards reportedly observed Bobb abusing his mother because she was not finished cooking on time.
After Edwards reportedly intervened, police said his stepfather armed himself with a knife and attacked the teen and his mother. Edwards was stabbed to the right side of his pelvic area.
Relatives who were told of the incident rushed Edwards and his mother to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). The two were tested for the COVID-19 virus.
The teen’s results were returned as positive, warranting his transfer to government’s specialised Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown. Edwards subsequently died on January 27.
Meanwhile, Bobb, who had fled the scene after the incident, was later arrested on January 29 by police who found him seeking refuge in a house in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The man was disguised in make-up and a wig and reportedly tried to evade police by escaping through a window. Bobb will return to court on February 11.
