-Louder, and prouder
If you’re a 90’s or early 2000’s baby, then I have some great news for you; the intriguing and hilarious animation series, ‘The Proud Family’ is set to make its big return to our screens in February 2022.
The show, which premiered in 2001, ran for two seasons in a span of four years, and became one of Disney Channels leading animated series.
It was so popular and captivating that it saw the network producing an entire film to commemorate the official finale of the series.
A coming-of-age story that follows the life Penny Proud, voiced by the talented Kyla Pratt, tells the story of an African American teenager, and chronicles her navigation of adolescence, family, friends and so much more.
While the show’s genre is recognized as a comedy, it did however touch on some serious conversations such as racism and peer-pressure. Its witty storytelling also sought to simplify those hard-to-have conversations with children of a young age.
The show was filled with many hi-jinks and hilarity, but always ended with a profound message as the ultimate take away. So far, the show’s co-creator, Bruce W. Smith, who will be retuning as an executive producer, teased that the return will be louder, prouder, and ready to tackle the social issues of the day.
Some developments will include introducing new, progressive characters with more complexities and storylines similar to real-life situations.
A first-look trailer was released as part of Disney Plus Day and will feature many of the leading cast members from the original cast of The Proud Family, which makes it even more splendid.
Kayla Pratt will return a Penny Proud, the show’s main character, along with Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Penny’s overprotective dad; Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Penny’s mom; Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Penny’s hip grandmother, along with many others.
The revival of The Proud Family is also set to see a host of celebrity guest stars.
So, listen out for the voices of some your favorite actors, singers and even youtubers. Some of the more popular names that are slated to come aboard in voice acting roles are Tiffany Haddish, Lizzo, Bretman Rock, Gabrielle Union, Lil Nas X, and more.
We at the Buzz family are excited and can’t wait to see what Penny Proud and her family has to bring to our screens.
