FORTY-year-old Patrick David lost his life on Saturday after he reportedly lost control of his speeding car and crashed into a parked truck at Gangaram Public Road, East Canje Berbice, Region Six at around 02:30 hours.
The Guyana Police Force revealed that four persons were in the car with David at the time of the accident.
David resided at Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice. The other occupants of the car were 36-year-old Hemraj Sheodarsom of West Canefield Settlement, who was sitting behind the driver; 36-year-old Dellon Giddings of Rose Hall, who was in the front passenger seat, and 17-year-old Javid Sherif of Overwinning, East Bank Berbice.

As a result of the collision, the car ended up in a trench on the eastern side f the road. The truck is owned by Harish Kupsammy. Police revealed that David was proceeding south along the eastern lane and according to Sheodarsom, they had just left Homme’s Bar. Sheodarsom claimed that he was intoxicated and so, David decided to drive everyone home.
The passengers were taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.
The teenager was treated and was later transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital in an unconscious condition. Sheodarsom and Giddings are regarded as stable.
