THE country’s latest South American 10k Road Classic Champion, Marlon Nicholson, a serving member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), has received additional recognition for his November 21st achievement.
According to a GDF release, Private Nicholson is now a Substantive Lance Corporal.
Lance Corporal Nicholson received his new badge of rank from Chief-of-Staff Brigadier Godfrey Bess following the conclusion of the Force Quarterly Fitness Competition at Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri on Friday.
Brigadier Bess encouraged the soldier, who is a member of the 3 1 Special Forces Squadron, to continue to give his best.

The 25-year-old Nicholson ran the race of his dreams to stun a chequered field in the South American 10k which was organised by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) last Sunday.
The athlete was not in most pundits’ purview for a podium finish but he certainly will be remembered for his courageous run.
He clocked 33 minutes 27.80 seconds, with Missigher (33:38.30s) and Audwin Tudor (33:39.30s) finishing close for the other two podium spots.
