SHEMAR Britton ended his participation at the Ecuador Open Table Tennis tournament in the Round-of-16, with a hard-fought four-sets-to-one defeat against India’s Manush Shah.

Britton, 23, and a former Caribbean U21 Champion, was the lone Guyanese at the tournament. He had won the two previous matches in dominating fashion to set up a showdown with his Indian counterpart.

The Guyanese lost the first set 7-11 and showed determination in the second set, but lost it 13-15. Britton was beaten 5-11 in the third set, but rebounded to take the fourth 11-7. However, Shah closed things off 5-11 in the fifth set to advance to the quarter-finals.
