SEVERAL of Guyana’s seasoned cricketers were on centre stage on Sunday in the final of the Washington Cricket League, 2021 Nation’s Capital T20 Tournament, in the US.
In the end, it was Christopher Barnwell and the likes of Bhaskar Yadram and Jonathan Foo for Asia United, who triumphed over Chandrapaul Hemraj and Assad Fudadin of Samp Army.
Asia United won the toss and opted to take first strike. All three Guyanese cricketers in the team played instrumental roles.
Barnwell struck three sixes in his 16-ball 26 runs batting at five, while Foo and Yadram added 39 runs for the sixth wicket with the former smashing 23 from 12 balls (2X6s, 1X4) and Yadram hitting 19 from nine balls (2X4s, 1X6).
Both Hemraj and Fudadin bowled an over each, but none were successful as Asia United reached 186-5 from 20 overs.
Hemraj, who opened the batting for Samp Army, hit two sixes in his 23 runs (20 balls) before he was bowled by Yadram. Barnwell then took control and grabbed three middle-order wickets, including that of Fudadin, who made nine runs from eight balls (1X4).
Barnwell finished with 3-32, while Yadram grabbed 2-25 as Samp Army laboured to 133-9 before their overs ran out.
