-Albert finishes with net 57
FORMER champions Avinda “Ganguly” Kishore and Christine Sukhram were ahead after day one of the two-day 2021 GTT Guyana Open Golf Championship, which is taking place this weekend at the Lusignan Golf Course.
The Premier event on the golfing calendar, attracted 74 players, in several categories at the nine-hole venue.
In the 0-9 male handicap division, brothers Kishore and defending 10-time champion Avinash Persaud were neck-and-neck.
Kishore, the younger of the two, finished with a two under par 68, while Persaud ended his 18 holes with a score of 69. The brothers, who will battle for the championship prize when the event continues today, have a six shot lead against their closest competitors, Vishal Girja (74), English player Tom Watkins (74) and Kevin Dinnanauth (74).
In the net battle of the 0-9 handicap range, Kishore is also ahead with 65, while Dinnanauth, who plays with an eight handicap is second with 66. Persaud, who is playing with a handicap of -1 is fourth behind Watkins (69).
FEMALE BATTLE
Although Sukhram is in the lead, her nine over par finish (79) is just ahead of former champions Joaan Deo and Shenella London. Both players are tied for second place with gross scores of 81.

Defending champion Barbadian Julia Stephenson is third, but 10 strokes back on 89.
10-18 HANDICAP DIVISION
In the 10-18 handicap division, Rabindra Persaud (Ravi) is leading a field of 35 golfers with a nine over par score. His 79 is two ahead of Andre Cummings with an 81. M. Harry and Roger Rajkumar are tied for third on 82, while Maxim Mangra is currently fifth on 83.
In the 19-28 handicap category, Rohan Albert (84) is enjoying a comfortable four stroke lead after an astonishing 84 score—his best scorer ever. His closest rival Videsh Persaud is on 88.
OVERALL NET LEADER
The 28-year-old Albert, who is playing with a 27 handicap, is currently leading the net scores with 57. Kishore is second on 65 with Dinnanauth and Rabindra Persaud tied for third place (the Guyana Open is a gross score tournament, but outstanding net scores are also rewarded).
The championship is scheduled to conclude today.
