ANDREW Fowler (OLY), Raekwon Noel, Patrice Mahaica and Aleka Persaud (OLY) will be Guyana’s representatives at this year’s FINA Short Course World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
The December 16-21 competition will take place in the iconic Etihad Arena, which, for the occasion, will be transformed into a 25m temporary pool.

The FINA Championships presents another opportunity for 15-year-old Aleka Persaud to test her speed against the rest of the world, after impressing at the Olympic Games.
Persaud became the country’s youngest-ever Olympian when she competed in Japan, where she also set a new national record in the Women’s 50m freestyle, with a time of 27.76 seconds.
Fowler, who also competed at the Olympic Games this year, will be looking to make amends for his performance in Tokyo.

With both Noel and Mahaica being just 15 years old in the team selected, the move is in keeping with the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) president, Dwayne Scott’s promise of giving exposure to the country’s young talent.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the prestigious short-course showcase for the second time, after a successful edition in 2010 in Dubai.
