THE Guyana Lottery Company yesterday handed over a cheque for an undisclosed sum to the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycling Club, towards its new kit for the upcoming season.

Known for its generosity, Guyana Lottery Company added the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycling Club to the list of sports teams, athletes and associations the company has supported over the years.

According to the Company’s Brand Ambassador, Rawle Toney, while the entity has supported sports throughout Guyana, not much has been done with and for the Linden community.

Toney highlighted that the Linden Community is synonymous with producing some of Guyana’s best athletes and cyclists.

“We’ve supported a lot of sports teams, players, associations; but we really haven’t done as much for Linden as we would want to. When we received the proposal from the cycling club, we immediately jumped on board. Sponsorship is really hard to come by but the Guyana Lottery Company is always ready and willing to assist whenever we can,” Toney said.

He added that the Linden Bauxite Flyers Cycling club presents the perfect opportunity for the Guyana Lottery Company to make its entrance in Linden with regard to sports and they’re looking forward to working with the club over the years.

Meanwhile, the club’s Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Jeffrey Yearwood, thanked the Guyana Lottery Company for taking the step in being its branding partner.

“Cycling is really an inspiration for the youths of Linden and it’s something the people of Linden look forward to. Linden is known for producing a lot of sportsmen and women and we want to keep that going. This club has been known for creating the nursery of cycling and we will continue to do so. This support will really help to boost our output and activity,” Yearwood said.

Yearwood said the Club is planning to host an event during the celebration of Tourism Month in November, which will cater for cyclists from Linden only. He noted that it will further engage the Linden tourism body to work out the necessary approval.
