SOME members of the Guyana Amazon Warriors concluded a four-day camp at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday, ahead of this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) tournament, which is scheduled to bowl off at Warner Park in St Kitts & Nevis on August 26.

The players present were mainly engaged in physical and mental sessions under the guidance of Strength and Conditioning coach, Clinton Jerimiah; trainer Dr Jason Pilgrim, and local coach Ryan Hercules. Operations Manager Omar Khan was also overseeing the training.

The other players present were Nial Smith, Ashmead Nedd, Kevin Sinclair, Romario Shepherd, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Gudakesh Motie, Anthony Bramble along with Jamaican Odean Smith.
Hercules stated in another section of the press, that players are building momentum and the main focus of this camp is on mental fitness.

“Majority of the players are at a very high level. Although (some of them) have not been playing, they have been doing their personal work and a few of them have been playing in a T20 League in the United States.

“We did some work on the pitch today and we are pushing them (players) a bit and we are getting results from them and they are up to the standard so far,” he stated.
The coach added, “We are working on the guys to be mentally prepared and to go into games when they are tired, and they can pull through and win the big games when it calls for you to step up, with bat or ball. (It is) finding that extra push or extra mile you can go to win a title.”

Amazon Warriors are winless in five of the eight finals so far in the tournament.
All 33 matches in this year’s CPL tournament will be played in St Kitts and Nevis.

The players will depart Guyana on Monday to join the rest of the overseas players, and all players are expected to be available for selection for the first match on August 26 against defending champions, Trinbago Knight Riders.
