Suspects in the murder of overseas-based Guyanese remanded

TWO persons were, on Tuesday, charged for the murder of an overseas-based Guyanese, Hemraj Pardessi called “Prem” of Lot 9 Reliance, East Canje, Region Six (East-Berbice-Corentyne).

Mario Bissoondyal called “Mayo” and Malisha Dutchin were not required to plead to the indictable charge when they appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh, at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.

The duo was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to the Reliance Magistrate’s Court for September 9.
According to information, at around 23:42 hours on August 3, police found Pardessi lying motionless at the bottom of the stairs on the ground floor of his Reliance residence.

He was faced down, duct tape was around his neck, and blood was oozing from his nose. After following the trail of blood to the second floor, the police found the entire place ransacked.

Following the incident, police managed to arrest four persons and subsequently apprehended Bissoondyal, a fisherman of Lot 141 Main Street Cumberland, who was considered one of the main suspects. He was found hiding in the Canje Creek area, aback the Rose Hall Estate.

During an interrogation, he reportedly admitted to his involvement in the crime and identified his accomplices.
A few days later, Dutchin, a housewife of Lot 4 Reliance, who is reportedly the mastermind, turned herself in for questioning at the Central Police Station.

Meanwhile, as part of ongoing investigations, the police has issued a wanted bulletin for 32-year-old Jason Isaacs of Lot 18 Bristol Street, East Canje, Berbice.
