THE Civil Defence Commission (CDC) has received a quantity of face masks, face shields, drinking water, concrete boards, hand sanitizers, adult pampers and other items, to assist households affected by severe flooding in some parts of Guyana. The donation was made on July 23, by Hits and Jams Entertainment, The Green Path Foundation and Lomam Group Inc. as part of joint effort to provide relief to those affected and to aid the commission in its flood-relief work. “It is with [a] deep sense of national unity and responsibility, Hits and Jams Entertainment, The Green Path Foundation and the Lomam Group offer to support the national mobilization effort launched. The dreaded effects of COVID-19 and the recent flood have caused severe distress to our country. This crisis has caused a natural reaction from the Government of Guyana to provide leadership initiatives to bring swift and much-needed relief to the people of Guyana,” the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lomam Group Inc., Calvin Wright said during the handing-over of the items. The items were received by Deputy Director-General of the CDC, Major Loring Benons, who expressed gratitude for the supplies and indicated that they will be dispatched swiftly to the impacted communities. Currently, the CDC is welcoming monetary donations as well as food and sanitation supplies which will be used to bring more relief to those affected by the natural disaster. Donations can be made at CDC’s headquarters at Thomas Lands daily between 09:00 hrs and 15:00 hrs.
