THE Guyana Amazon Warriors will face defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the opening match of this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which starts on Thursday, August 26 at 10:00hrs.
All 33 matches in this ninth edition will be played at Warner Park, St Kitts – the base for franchise St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
All the matches are being held on the island due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but given the country’s extremely low infection rate, only fully-vaccinated fans will be allowed entry to matches, according to the organisers.

In 2020, CPL was played behind closed gates at the Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara Cricket Academy, in Trinidad and Tobago.
Initially, this year’s tournament was to start August 28 and run until September 19, but in a release yesterday, the organisers confirmed that “following discussions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Cricket West Indies (CWI), the dates of this year’s tournament have been amended”.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis in India, this year’s IPL was suspended at the halfway stage in early May and the second half will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in September – October.
The Hero CPL will now start on August 26 and finish on September 15, and this new schedule means the tournament will start two days after the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan in Jamaica.
