COVID-19 claims another life

THE Ministry of Health, on Wednesday, recorded another COVID-19 death for the month of June, 2021.
There have been 71 such deaths within June alone, making it the second deadliest month for the pandemic in Guyana, while a total of 469 deaths have been recorded locally since the detection of the viral disease in March, 2020.
May remains the month with the highest number of fatalities, with the Ministry of Health having recorded 99 deaths within 31 days.
The latest fatality is a 52-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), who succumbed while receiving medical care at a government facility.
Further, the Health Ministry has recorded 96 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,550 tests carried out for June 29, 2021.
Of these, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded four; Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), seven; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), nine; Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), 53;

Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), five; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), nine; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), five; and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), four.
The newly infected persons were 42 males and 54 females. Presently, 12 persons occupy the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 94 are institutionally isolated, 1,440 are isolated at home, and six are institutionally quarantined.
Of Guyana’s 20,055 confirmed cases, 1,552 are active, and are currently being monitored, while 161 of Guyana’s 18,040 recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
