THREE men, ages 23, 29 and 36, respectively, were, on Saturday, caught with some 2.436 kilograms or about 5.4 pounds of marijuana at the 70 KM checkpoint, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
According to Police Headquarters, ranks conducted a stop-and-search around 01:10hrs of a motor lorry bearing registration number GTT 3751, which was at the time being driven by a 32-year-old male, accompanied by eight other persons on the truck, including two porters.
During the search of the lorry, police found a white salt bag which contained three bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic, and, upon inspection of the parcels, a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis, were discovered.
Police reported that the occupants were all arrested and escorted to the Bartica Police Station, Region Seven (Cayuni-Mazaruni), along with the cannabis.
As investigations proceeded, it was disclosed that the salt bag was in the possession of three of the eight persons aboard the lorry who were picked up from Buckhall Landing, together. They were subsequently placed in police custody as investigations continue.
