Man charged for knifepoint robbery remanded

SAMUEL Warick, who allegedly robbed a woman of her cellular phone at knifepoint, on Friday, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison.

Warick pleaded not guilty to the armed robbery charge.

The charge states that Warick, on June 9, 2021, at Water Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of another, and armed with a knife, robbed Christian Ramkissoon of one Note 9 cellular phone valued at $61,000.

It is alleged that on the day in question at about 17:30 hours, Warick and his accomplice were at Water Street, Georgetown, in the vicinity of 42 Minibus Park. Ramkissoon was robbed as he was boarding a bus.

A police officer who was in the vicinity gave chase. Warick and his accomplice were eventually apprehended by the police and a search was conducted on their person. Warick was allegedly found to be in possession of the knife while his accomplice who is a juvenile, was found with Ramkissoon’s cellular phone. They were arrested and Warick was later charged.

The matter was adjourned until July 2, 2021.
