THE Carlton Wheelers Cycling Club will host a 44-mile road race in West Demerara next Sunday, Father’s Day.
The event, which will be open to cyclists in the various divisions, will take place in collaboration with traditional supporters Banks DIH.
According to president of Carlton Wheelers, Hassan Mohamed, the race was last held in 2019, due to restrictions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
Although the club is awaiting confirmation from the COVID-19 task force, the veteran national coach is optimistic of approval being granted.
Several cycling meets have been held this year, including the Independence Three-Day and the National Cycling Championships last month.

Mohamed said that the race is open to seniors, females, veterans and juniors.
The race, which will pedal off at 08:00hrs from Schoonord will see cyclists proceed to Bushy Park, Parika then return to finish at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The first six overall finishers and the top three in the female, veteran and junior divisions will get prizes.
According to Mohamed the Father’s Day race is geared towards celebrating the accomplishments of fathers in the sport.
“The reason I’m doing the race is that nobody remembers the fathers.”
