The deaths included that of a 17-year-old, one of the youngest since the detection of COVID-19 in Guyana, in March 2020.
Even with that high number being recorded in May, it does not stop there, as the toll continues to climb with two more deaths being recorded within the past 24 hours.
The latest fatalities are a 44-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), and a 94 -year-old woman from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). Guyana has confirmed 17,114 cases of COVID-19 since March 2020, 1,869 of which are currently active, while 357 of the 14,879 recoveries were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
