BOLLYWOOD superstar Ajay Devgn, well-loved in the police roles that he’s often pulled off, has given fans something new to look forward to with his announcement of ‘Rudra – The Edge of Darkness. In an Instagram post recently to announce the new series, Ajay described the Hotstar Specials as the “crime thriller of the year.”
The 52-year-old, known for blockbusters like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Singham and Tanaji, among many others, is all set to play a cop again, but this time for OTT as he makes his web series debut. The show is a remake of the British psychological crime drama television series ‘Luther’ which revolves around a police detective who becomes friends with a psychopath murderer for help to solve other criminal cases. According to information in the Indian press, no known date has been announced for the new series, which will soon be going into production and will be shot at iconic locations across Mumbai. “Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn surprised one and all… by dropping the official glimpse of his web series debut on social media….this one is a crime drama that’ll see the star in a cop avatar….after playing iconic policeman roles in Bollywood many times, the actor once again will be seen in the same avatar,” a Yahoo article has said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Express quotes Ajay as saying the following: “My attempt has always been to tell unique stories and work with good talent. The idea is to raise the bar of entertainment in India. The digital world excites me, and I am looking forward to working with Applause and BBC to bring this series to life on Disney+ Hotstar VIP. Rudra – The Edge of Darkness is a compelling and highly intriguing story and I can’t wait to begin this new journey!”
The article further mentions Ajay as saying that the reason he felt drawn to the series is that his character is ‘intense, complex and dark’. “What drew me most to his persona, is that he is possibly the greyest character you may come across in recent times,” the actor concluded.
“Rudra – The Edge of Darkness is one of our biggest shows to date and we are very excited to have Ajay Devgn play the lead. He truly has the fiery intensity and persona required to play this iconic character,” Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment was quoted as saying.
