Four more COVID-19 deaths, 116 new cases

FOUR more persons who had tested positive for COVID-19, succumbed to the deadly virus on Thursday, a statement released on Friday by the Ministry of Health has revealed. The total number of deaths to date is now 314.
The latest fatalities are four women, ages 52, 65, 69 and 29. The first two women were from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), while the other two resided in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara and Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), respectively.
There have now been 15 deaths recorded for the month of May, 2021.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Health has recorded 116 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,118 tests conducted for May 6, 2021.
Of the new cases, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded three; Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), five; Region Three, seven; Region Four, 38; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), 11; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), 20; Region Seven, 10; Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), four; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), nine, and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), nine.

The newly infected persons include 61 males and 55 females.
There are currently 14 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 101 in institutional isolation, 1,716 isolated at home, and 10 in institutional quarantine.
Guyana has confirmed a total of 14,073 cases of COVID-19 since its discovery in Guyana in March, 2020. Of that number, 1,841 are currently active, and of the 11,928 recoveries, 141 were recorded within the past 24 hours.
All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for the correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
