LYNDON ‘Jumbie’ Jones and his team at Signature Comedy will stop at nothing to get their new sitcom out – a brand new production called ‘Something like Life’ that they are determined to release soon irrespective of all of the challenges involved.
The Coronavirus pandemic has put a damper on the operations of Jones and his team and fans are no longer able to look forward to their signature events like ‘Nothing to Laugh About’ and ‘Uncensored’ at the National Cultural Center, among other top quality, hilarious productions.
But the team has been trying its best to keep their fans entertained through other means like posting videos of previous shows and filming and releasing new skits on social media. “We’re always trying new things. Life is so uncertain these days so everything doesn’t always unfold the way you planned,” Jones expressed in an interview with Buzz this week, adding, “But we’ve been hitting the internet really heavy.”
While things have been improving workwise for a bit, Jones said the team’s finances are not close to where they should be, but that this will not deter them from putting out their latest production.

The new sitcom features real-life situations that are at times exaggerated and made funny. “It’s about a family that lives in a very small home who is bombarded by other family members who come to stay,” Jones informed.
The one-bedroom in the house is separated by a sheet so that most of the time, everyone has to share the same space. “Mother-in-law, daughter, friend, friend’s boyfriend in the yard and a very fast neighbour who is also a loyal neighbour at the same time,” Jones continued.
The neighbour is over too often but he doesn’t realise it. He also inadvertently ‘shows up’ Jumbie, the head of the family, by showing a lot of love and kindness to Jumbie’s wife and other family members. However, he and Jumbie are very good friends.

The show will also feature a great mix in terms of ethnicity. “We are doing this show no what, even if it’s with minimum sponsorship. We’ve already spoken to the actors and camera crew and because it’s hard to monitor the activities of people, we are working with a small group who has committed to taking precautions.”
The team has already written quite a few episodes and filmed one to show potential sponsors. Apart from this, the team has been uploading videos on their various social media platforms, which have been receiving very positive feedback. It proves to them that their work is missed and quite valued in the entertainment field.
In some developed countries, uploading videos in this manner can earn the producers some money. So Jones and team are trying to figure out how the system would work here in Guyana so that they too may be able to cash in on something.
Although many businesses have reduced the amount of sponsorship that they give for television and radio programmes, Jones had said that he is grateful to those businesses who continue to support them.
