11 die of COVID so far for this month

TWO more COVID-19 deaths recorded by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday have pushed the toll to 310, a figure which is reflected in the daily dashboard for May 6, 2021. The latest fatalities are a male and a female, aged 57 and 62 respectively, from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). They both died while receiving medical care at a Ministry of Health facility. There have now been 11 deaths recorded for the month of May, 2021. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recorded 128 new cases of COVID-19 from 781 tests conducted for May 5, 2021. Of these, Region One (Barima-Waini) recorded nine, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), five; Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 30; Region Four, 58; Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), eight; Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), four; Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), four; Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), two; Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), one, and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice), seven.

The newly infected persons were 52 males and 76 females. There are currently 16 persons within the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 99 in institutional isolation, 1,745 isolated at home, and eight in institutional quarantine. Guyana has confirmed a total of 13,957 cases of COVID-19 since its arrival in Guyana. Of that number, 1,868 are currently active; and of the 11,787 recoveries, 115 were recorded within the past 24 hours. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home, the importance of maintaining the six-foot physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
