CYCLISTS will battle for over $150 000 in cash when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) hosts its 50-mile Road Race today.
The event, which is set to pedal off at 07:00hrs, has already attracted a number of local riders, with many more expected to register before the start.
Following prescribed COVID-19 guidelines, which includes having their temperature checked, the riders will pedal off from CARIFESTA Avenue and race up to Mahaica on the East Coast of Demerara before returning to the starting point.
According to information from the GCF, $83 000 will be up for grabs in the Elite/Senior division. The champion rider will collect $20 000, with the second-place finisher receiving $18 000. Third-placer will receive $15 000, fourth place $12 000, fifth $10 000 and sixth $8 000.
Both the Masters/Veterans and Juniors will battle for $37 000 each.

There will be a total of six sprint prizes up for grabs.
In February, Marcus Keiler powered his way to the 2021 Forbes Burnham Memorial Cycling title. He is expected to be one of the top performers again today.
In that race, cyclists battled from Georgetown to Belfield and back, approximately 15 miles less than today’s race.
Briton John was second, Alex Mendes third, Christopher Griffith fourth and Marlon Williams fifth.
