–through contribution to art, poetry exhibition in Linden
AS part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT), has provided financial assistance to differently abled persons through a recently held ‘Paint and Poetry’ event held in Linden.
The telecommunications company, in a press statement on Tuesday, said that the proceeds from the event will aid in assisting the differently abled residents of Linden.
GTT’s Public Relations Manager, Jasmin Harris, was quoted in the statement as saying: “We have bid and purchased the painting done by Curator of GT Memoirs, Damien Lewis, at the cost of $40,000. The proceeds from the purchase of this painting, as also announced by Lewis, would be donated to the Linden Centre for the Disabled, as an additional fundraiser to the event.” The charity event was hosted by the Mayor of Linden, Waneka Arrindell, in conjunction with the Town Council and the tourism committee of Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Harris said too that GTT, in addition to purchasing the painting to support the cause, also provided sponsorship worth $200,000 through the purchase of tickets to attend the event.
Lewis commended GTT for its support to persons living with disabilities, noting: “I am grateful to GTT for helping me to give back to the people of Linden through the purchase of my painting. I wished there was a counter bid to raise more money; GTT did issue the challenge – but I am still thankful my painting was able to garner the amount it did and that it will go directly to those who need it the most.”
An Amazon best-selling Author and Organiser of the art and poetry exhibition, Leon Labastide, also said: “This is the first of its kind in Linden and it was a great success. We are grateful to GTT for its partnership; the community and our upcoming young entrepreneurs appreciated GTT’s presence and input. Because of the example set by GTT, other companies are already contacting us to partner on future events and we are excited about this.”
The organiser said that plans are already in place to conduct events of the same nature in the coming months.
