PRESIDENT of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Hilbert Foster, has urged Berbicians to be steadfast in their support of West Indies middle-order batsman, Shimron Hetmyer, as he experiences a bleak period in his career.
Foster was speaking at the presentation ceremony of the Shimron/Nirvani Hetmyer Berbice Cricket Trust Fund, on Sunday, at the St Francis Community Developers building in Rose Hall Town.
Foster noted that the 24-year-old needs love, peace of mind, sincere words of advice and the comfort of knowing that real friends are around.
The BCB boss reassured Hetmyer that he has his full support and he would always be at his side in good and bad times.
Hetmyer was recently left out of the West Indies first Test team to face Sri Lanka, but is expected to leave for India shortly to play in the Indian Premier League.
Hetmyer is expected to return to Guyana in time for the upcoming Regional Four-Day tournament.
Foster predicted that Hetmyer will bounce back stronger than before and will no doubt go on to become one of Berbice’s greatest batsmen, joining a long list that includes: Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Joe Soloman, Roy Fredricks and Alvin Kallicharran.
