THROUGH its Charity Arm, Worship in Spirit and in Truth (WIST) Ministries International recently made a donation to the Shaheed’s Girls’ Orphanage, which was damaged by a fire in February.
The fire of unknown origin broke out on February 1 in the dressing room of the upper flat of the orphanage’s Oleander Gardens, East Coast Demerara building, leaving over 20 girls in dire need of personal items.
WIST member, Krest Cummings told the Guyana Chronicle that the organisation believes that one of the best ways to serve a community is through generosity.
She said the organisation actively seeks to assist those in need and provide support and care through timely donations.

In a recent report, the orphanage’s director, Raheema Rahaman, had indicated that girls who range from ages three to 17 years and were directly affected by the tragedy, were in need of items such as clothing.
“We usually need public assistance, but of course, we didn’t anticipate this,” said Rahaman. “The girls need clothing as well… the only clothing they have left are the ones that are hung out on the line,” she added.
Cummings stated that the WIST team acted through its Charity Arm, by gathering essential items for all the girls who suffered as a result of the fire. Items such as garments, footwear, toiletries, and testaments were packed and delivered to the orphanage on March 5.
