-ranks visit relatives, promise ‘comprehensive’ investigation
AN autopsy conducted on the body of 60-year-old Ghansham Cooblall, who was killed in an accident at Mandela Avenue, revealed that his death was caused by multiple crush injuries. The post mortem was performed on Wednesday by government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh. Cooblall’s body was subsequently handed over to his relatives for cremation. Also, on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent Fredella Boyce led a team of ranks from the Ruimveldt Police Station and Cadet Officer Stephen Harris on a visit to the dead man’s home. The ranks met with the family members of the deceased and assured them that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted, and that no stone will be left unturned. Pastor Roberts from the Cops and Faith Religious Organization who accompanied the ranks, prayed for the family and reassured them with positive words of encouragement.
According to reports on March 8, 2021, about 10:55 hours there was an accident involving #GRR9016 driven by a 33-year-old man of Phase 3, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Cooblall of Curtis Street, Albouystown,
Enquiries disclosed that the left side front of the motor lorry came into contact with Cooblall, who at the time was crossing the road. As a result of the collision Cooblall fell onto the road surface where the left side front wheel ran over him.
Cooblall was later picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, and pronounced dead. A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver which revealed no trace of alcohol in his system. Investigations are ongoing.
