THE Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown), the first cause-based club in Guyana with a focus on environmental issues, on Friday morning, donated garbage receptables to the Protected Areas and National Parks Commissions.
Rotarian Erwin Chapman said that the Rotary Club of Garden City (Georgetown) is the newest Rotary Club in Guyana, and its projects and activities will be focused on “supporting the environment”. “This is the first donation to the commissions, and we look forward to continued collaboration in areas of mutual interest,” she said.
Denise Fraser, Commissioner of Protected Areas Commission and Denise Bentick, Director of the National Parks Commission expressed their appreciation for the receipt of the items.
The commissions’ representatives said the donation is timely as with the current national restrictions, persons use the park not only for physical health activities. The receptacles will be able to support the cleanliness and aesthetics of the environs.
The Protected Areas Commission is mandated to manage, maintain, promote and expand the national protected areas system in Guyana, and gives support to the urban parks in the City which falls under the purview of the National Parks Commission.
