A NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION (NGO), Youths on the Rise Guyana, will be targetting the perpetual need for blood at the Blood Bank, through its annual blood drive and medical outreach.
The activity, which is slated for February 27, 2021, will be conducted at the Summertime Travel Agency located at the Lucky Dollar building, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast of Demerara (WCD).
Members of the group believe that this activity is especially necessary because the presence or absence of blood at a crucial moment means life or death for a patient. Blood is used for elective surgeries, as well as emergency surgeries, especially in motor vehicular accidents and for victims of crime. It is required for treating patients suffering from cancer, bleeding disorders, chronic anaemia associated with cancer, sickle cell anaemia, and other hereditary blood abnormalities.

Blood is also life-saving in the maternal and child health department for complicated deliveries.
“Remember that when you decide to roll up your sleeves and sit down in that chair to give blood, know with certainty that you are making a major difference in your life and most importantly saving the life of a patient,” Co- Founder and Director for Youths on the Rise Guyana, Sasha Rawof, said in a recent statement.
Youths on the Rise Guyana was founded in 2018 by a group of young people, who share a common goal of promoting youth development and doing humanitarian work to benefit families from communities throughout the country.

“Our aim is to involve youths in community and developmental work as well as create sustainable projects and opportunities for less fortunate individuals,” Rawof said.
The organisation’s work encompasses social projects, training opportunities, human and infrastructural development, medical assistance, domestic violence awareness, educational and recreational activities, among other things.
All of their activities and events are mostly self-funded or sometimes supported by sponsorship from members of the private sector.
