AN additional 75 persons who were infected with the virus, COVID-19, have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,729, according to the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard for February 20.
Despite the recoveries, however, 42 additional persons were infected over the 24-hour period, after 1,057 tests were conducted. These new cases take the total number of cases recorded in Guyana to 8,399. One new case was recorded in Region Two, three cases in Region Three, 32 in Region Four, one in Region Five, three in Region Seven and two in Region 10. The cases were also drawn from 23 men and 19 women.
There are 10 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 16 in institutional quarantine, 34 in institutional isolation and 437 in home isolation. This means that there are 497 active cases of COVID-19, locally. Additionally, there have been no new deaths, therefore, the number of lives lost to COVID-19 since March last year remains at 189.
As per the gazetted COVID-19 Emergency Measures (No. 14), there is a nationwide curfew imposed from 22:30 hrs to 04:00 hrs daily. All Guyanese are urged to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 emergency measures, which emphasise the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
