VIRAT Kohli, captain of the India national team, and his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, have recently welcomed their baby girl Vamika, and has vowed to do whatever it takes to keep her out of the spotlight. “We have lived together with love, presence and gratitude as a way of life but this little on, Vamika has taken it to a whole new level,” Sharma wrote on her Instagram account last Monday, as she shared their first family photo to the world. She added in the post: “Tears, laughter, worry, bliss – emotions that have been experienced in a span of minutes sometimes! Sleep is elusive but our hearts are so full. Thanking you all for your wishes, prayers and good energy.”
Kohli had also taken to Instagram after the birth of their daughter to express how “thrilled” they were to have their daughter. “Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter in our lives,” he said.

Sharma and Kohli had announced the pregnancy last August. In her first trimester, Sharma had been promoting her two production ventures—Pataal Lok and the feminist supernatural film Bulbbul. In an interview with Vogue Magazine recently, Sharma was unequivocal about retaining a sense of normalcy and privacy. She told that magazine: “We’ve thought about it a lot. We definitely do not want to raise a child in the public eye—we don’t plan on engaging our child in social media. I think it’s a decision your child should be able to take. No kid should be made to be more special than the other. It’s hard enough for adults to deal with it. It’s going to be difficult, but we intend to follow through.”
Both being animal lovers, she also expressed that their intention is to help their daughter to be able to bond with animals too. “They are a big part of our lives and we really believe they can teach kindness and compassion to children.”

Commenting on how they plan to balance their careers with the demands of parenthood, she said: “We don’t see it as mum and dad duties but as a family unit. For us, it’s important that our child be raised with a very balanced outlook. It is all about shared duties. I will be the primary caregiver, especially in the first few years, and that’s the reality. I am self-employed and I can decide when I am working if I do one or two films a year. In Virat’s case, he plays round the year. What becomes important is the time we spend together as a family.”
She also mentioned that becoming a parent teaches selflessness. “That’s the beauty of becoming a parent. It’s a less selfish existence and I’m really excited. I know it’s not going to be easy all the time, but you have to do what you have to do.”
