“NEVER Gonna Cheat” singer Sonia Singh, at just 18 years old, knows exactly the path she wants to tread, and her latest song, in response to Vicadi Singh’s “Never Gonna Leave” has been making waves locally. As an upcoming artiste, she is self-employed and is doing her dancing and singing on the side, accepting hires for birthdays, weddings and small events. She also attends many charitable events and business promotions. “I like to entertain people and make them feel special,” Sonia told the Buzz this week, adding, “Being a dancer and a singer has always been my dream.” Sonia, a senior member of the Ishara Dance Troupe, led by Shivanie Latchman, and the Berbice Delights, led by Valerie Barran, dreams of someday leading her own dance troupe. It all started when she attended the mandir while growing up, and local entertainer Rajesh Dubraj also played a role in helping to teach her.
“As I started to develop my dreams, I realised that I can be successful in life. Growing up, as I moved forward, it was very difficult and complicated. We all know that nothing happens without hard work. Thankfully, I had my parents’ support in pursuing my career,” she said.

Speaking about her song, “Never Gonna Cheat,” which has also been playing in the Caribbean, Sonia said she loved the music in Vicadi Singh’s song and was inspired by it. “That’s why I thought it was a good opportunity for me to do the reply. I thought that a Guyanese would be great to do the reply.”
Wanting to make the song “fun and catchy”, she mixed it up with a little reality, drawing lessons from what she sees happening in society. “I was on my bed one night with my little sister and I said to her, ‘Help me write the reply to Vicadi song.’ The music was mixed and mastered by Bunty Singh BKVJ studios.
Sonia says her goal is to become a famous singer and to be able to have her own organisation to help people who are in need. “I always love to inspire people and help them to be always happy no matter what may happen in life. Everything happens for its own reason,” she said, adding, “Remember to always be kind to someone and share love. Dancing and singing make me happy; you can also do what makes you happy.”
