Police are investigating an armed robbery at Miss Phoebe, Port Mourant, East Berbice Corentyne, on Thursday evening. Parbattie Etwaroo, 53, an overseas-based Guyanese who recently returned to Guyana, said on Thursday evening, at around 20:00 hours, she was in the upper-flat of her two-storey house folding clothes, when she was confronted by a masked intruder armed with a handgun.  Etwaroo related that her niece was downstairs doing some work in the kitchen when the men entered and took her inside.  She explained her niece, Swarsattie Narain, 33, a vendor, was taken up the stairs and by the step where one of the men placed a knife to her neck while the gunman pointed the weapon to her and demanded she hand over cash and valuables. The distraught woman was taken to the bedroom where she handed over GYD$50, 000, CAD$ 500, one gold bangle valued at GYD$90,000, a gold and diamond necklace valued at CAD$3,500, a gold necklace valued GYD $60,000 and a Samsung Galaxy A71 valued at CAD$700. She added that during the ordeal, she was gun-butted to the head and is still suffering from pain in the head.  An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
