Vessels plying Reg. 1 route undergoing emergency repairs

THE vessels, MV Kimbia and MV Barima, are currently undergoing emergency repairs, resulting in an interruption of service to commuters travelling to and from Region One (Barima-Waini).

The MV Kimbia has developed a hole in its bow, while the MV Barima has experienced engine failure to its port engine, a press release from the Ministry of Public Works and the Transport and Harbours Department stated.

The MV Kimbia is currently in dry dock at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC), and is expected to be fully operational by the end of January. Efforts are being made by the relevant agencies, in collaboration with the private sector, to get the service up and running as soon as possible.

The general public will be updated on the status of the vessels, and when they will be scheduled to depart Port Georgetown, as soon as the problems are rectified. For updates and more information, persons can contact the Transport and Harbours Department on 226-9730/225-9355.
