GTT ‘outage’ causes disruption in landline and cellphone services

MANY mobile and landline customers of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GTT) found their services disrupted on Friday morning due to an “outage”.
Around 09:00 hours, customers reported being unable to make calls to non-GTT cellphone numbers.
The company subsequently released a statement on its Facebook page, acknowledging the issue and noted that it was being looked at.
“Notice to our valued customers: Landline calls to mobile numbers are currently affected across all networks. Our technicians are aware and are working to resolve as soon as possible. We apologise for this inconvenience,” the statement said.
Approximately one hour later the company issued another message stating that the “service has been restored due to swift action by GTT technicians.”
The company did not say what caused the issue. However, when contacted, a customer service representative for the company would only say that there was an “outage” in the system.
