… Floodlights to be commissioned
CRICKET Guyana Inc. (CGI) will be unveiling its long-awaited new multi-purpose mini stadium and facility this evening, at the Jaguars’ new home located at La Bonne Intention (LBI) on the East Coast Demerara.
After months of rehabilitation and upgrading, the Jaguars’ new training and practice arena is set to break new ground, as it could be viewed as another mini Providence, inclusive of all the updated features including floodlights – a huge plus with contemporary cricket being fixated around Day/Night games.
CGI confirmed that at roughly 18:30hrs, the gates to one of Guyana’s newly erected, high-end sporting venues will be opened followed by a brief ceremony.
Apart from the former 5-time champions Guyana Jaguars, the next generation of stars, the Academy players, will now be the first set of Guyanese cricketers to have such amenities available to them during their course of development and transition from the academy to the national senior and even West Indies team.
More so, with COVID-19 continuing its path of destruction and uncertainty heading into 2021, it is possible that with the opening of the LBI facility, cricketers can be closely monitored and housed in a sanitised environment due to the venue being new.
Also, with the CWI Regional season just around the corner it will be quite important for the Jaguars to commence their preparation as they look to finally shake the monkey off their backs and place themselves in contention to win the elusive Super50 title. (Clifton Ross)
