POLICE are investigating the circumstances of an accident on the New Amsterdam Public Road Sunday night which has left 27-year-old motorcyclist, Jamal Joseph, dead and another in a critical condition.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the accident occurred at about 18:00h on Republic Road and Pitt Street, involving a motor car and two motorcycles.
Keil Noble, 39, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam remains in a critical state at the New Amsterdam Hospital. He is reported to have suffered serious head injuries.
The car was driven by a 22-year-old female of Cumberland, East Canje Berbice, while motorcycle, CK 2765, was ridden by Noble with a pillion rider (both wearing helmets).
Police said motorcycle, CK 1731, was ridden by Joseph who was not wearing a helmet. According to reports, the car was proceeding north along Republic Road, when it is alleged that the female driver, attempted to overtake Joseph and she ended up in the path of Noble.
This forced Noble to swerve resulting in a collision of the motorcycles. Noble lost control and collided into the centre front portion of the car; Noble and the pillion rider fell to the ground and sustained injuries.
They were picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by doctors on duty.
Joseph succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
