THE police are currently investigating alleged malpractices surrounding the issuance of false receipts for the sale of house lots to a resident in Region Two. The resident on Wednesday showed the receipts to President Irfaan Ali during his presidential outreach held in the boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council. Commander Crystal Robinson along with detectives immediately launched an investigation into the allegations. When questioned by the President about monies being collected and residents not getting their lots, Regional Housing Clerk Suean Seewnarayan said she became aware of the matter when she joined the department in 2018. Seewnarayan said the payments were never deposited through the RDC Accounts Department.
President Ali, who was very concerned, ordered members of the Guyana Police Force to launch an investigation into the matter. He also said that housing matters need to be dealt with promptly. Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Sherwyn Greaves, said several issues were raised against Regional Housing Officer Reuben Henry, and as such, his employment was terminated last week. Greaves said the CH&PA will be hiring two new staff members since the region is plagued with housing issues.
Many persons related that they applied for house lots many years ago but never received a feedback. Many persons are still awaiting land titles, while others have made payments and their monies were not deposited. An investigation has been launched by the relevant authorities.
