… Director lauds golf fraternity for brightening Christmas

By Clifton Ross

THE Hope Children’s Orphanage received early Christmas presents, compliments of NexGen Golf Academy and overwhelming support from Guyana’s golf fraternity, who held a fundraiser last Sunday with proceeds going directly towards the children’s home. During the simple ceremony held yesterday at the Hope Children’s Orphanage, Guyana Golf Association (GGA) president Aleem Hussain and association member Michelle Codrington, personally handed the cheque to Director of the Orphanage Kenneth Finlayson. Finlayson told the GGA executives that the gesture was timely and it came at a time when things have been rocky not only for the less fortunate but also for all Guyanese and the rest of the world.

Mr Finlayson noted that this move would definitely give the children a much better holiday than previously anticipated, adding that he was looking forward to garner more support to complete the planned building expansion which had been stalled due to lack of funds and materials. “Persons or companies interested in making contributions to the orphanage can contact Mr. Hussain who has agreed to do whatever it takes to help us complete the project,” said Finlayson. The Enmore Orphanage head further expressed his gratitude while the children enthusiastically sang Christmas carols as they recalled the fundraising event held in their honour last Sunday. Meanwhile, according to Hussain, the academy and golf in general over the years have played a huge role in off-course development of the country; with the local golf fraternity being involved in a number of charitable events – this being no different as he promised bigger things in the future.
